Abstract
The significant expansion of the world pet market requires specialized assistance in animal health as well as specialized pharmaceutical services. In this context, hospital pharmacists have developed logistic activities such as selection, acquisition, control, and distribution of medicines. Pharmacists have been involved in manipulation of dosage forms, antineoplastic drugs, and parenteral nutrition. Moreover, the role of the pharmacist in veterinary care has been expanded to provide clinical services such as medication review and medication counseling for veterinarians and pet owners. This article aims to present and discuss the opportunities and challenges related to research, teaching, legislation, and the role of hospital pharmacists in the veterinary field.
