Abstract
Brazil and the world have been facing an epidemic of chronic non communicable diseases (CDNT) and the current model of health care, traditionally based on responses to acute conditions, has not been able to meet demand. For this reason it was proposed to apply the Chronic Care Model (CCM) which presents new strategies for attention to chronic conditions. To achieve this, it is necessary that its implementation be monitored. Some instruments have been developed to facilitate the implementation and monitoring of CCM, including the Patient Assessment of Chronic Illness Care (PACIC), which has been empirically tested and supported by evidence from several studies. This study seeks to recognize how PACIC has been used in the evaluation of care in chronic diseases. For that, a review was made in the databases Scielo, BVS and Pubmed, from which 85 articles were analyzed. It was found that the PACIC could be better utilized by the researchers for several reasons.
