Abstract

Alzheimer’s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder that causes cognitive decline and represents the highest prevalence of dementia, especially in the elderly. It is characterized by a progressive memory disorder, initially affecting short-term memory and over the years evolving into long-term memory. In recent years many drugs have been evaluated for the prevention and treatment of this dementia. Our work aimed to identify by means of literature review new and probable therapeutic alternatives for the treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease, with emphasis on Resveratrol and Curcumin, two substances of natural origin. After research carried out in the main databases, it was possible to identify several studies that demonstrate the anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and neuroprotective actions of both substances, with effect on neurodegenerative diseases, specifically Alzheimer’s Disease. The research indicates the possible viability of the efficacy of Curcumin and Resveratrol as an adjuvant treatment to reduce the progression of the disease and provide a better quality of life for patients.
