Abstract
This work has as an objective to discuss the importance of formative assessment as a management tool in schools that uses active methods of teaching and learning. The subjects were 115 teachers of a State University of medicine. In the data collection we used a questionnaire with statements and analysis of the degree of agreement and/or disagreement systematized, classified and tabulated. For further research, we used a semi-structured interview, and the data was submitted to thematic analysis. We found that, in active methods, teachers are invited to assume effectively the role of managers throughout the teaching/learning process and formative assessment is highlighted as an important management tool. It is necessary that the course count on an assessment core, which accompanies the process of teaching/learning and consequently the actors involved, to ensure a situation analysis, which systematizes the findings and feed management course.
